WILDNESS IN PIEDMONT, CALIFORNIA
Habitat is the #1 priority for this landscape: habitat for plants and wildlife, but also for the homeowner's children. She wanted a very naturalistic garden, abundant with life, surprises and adventure.
Though ongoing care is important, we pause our care services in the backyard from late Summer thru late Fall to allow the monarch butterflies to complete their life cycle. They feed on native milkweed, lay eggs, and create their chrysalis on the passion vine. The kids love this annual treat in their garden.
The vibe is a little different in the front yard, though habitat is still a key priority, but attention is given to curb appeal. The Mediterranean styled house has a stately fountain near the entry and planters that are used as focal points and ideal spots to grow plants that prefer sandy soil over the native clay.
